Volunteers Deakin University

A group of volunteers, all students from Deakin University in Australia just finished two weeks of service at Her Farm Nepal. The volunteers were in Nepal to help constuct a new goat shed for the women of Her Farm Nepal. These volunteers worked hard and accomplished a great deal in a short time. Thank you Deakin Univeristy Students, hope to see you again in Nepal soon.

A group of volunteers from Australia is busy building another demonstration home at Her Farm. Following the April earthquakes in Nepal we've been building various earthquake resistant houses to teach local villagers ways to rebuild that are safer and cost effective. We've demonstrated earth bag buildings and gabion band buildings and now our volunteers are making an addition to the kitchen at Her Farm from bamboo and mud plaster. 

Since the government has yet to provide any financial assistant to villagers who lost homes in the quakes, this particular method of construction is useful. Building a home from bamboo and mud plaster is very inexpensive, will last 20-30 years and is warmer in winter, cooler in summer than the stone ...

Dashain Festival in Nepal

The two biggest festivals in Nepal are Dashain and Tihar. This year our volunteer program will be closed for both. For Dashain we are closed October 13-26.  For Tihar the dates are November 8-13.

Volunteer Teach Film in Nepal

The Mountain Volunteer, The Mountain Fund and Her Farm Films announced a new volunteer program in Nepal today. Her Farm Films is the name of our production branch at Mountain Fund. The mission of Her Farm Films is to provide the training and equipment needed for Nepali women to produce short films about life in Nepal for women.

The narrative changes when you change the narrator. Getting the voices of women heard is a crucial step in changing the conditions for women in Nepal. Ranked as one of the worst places on earth to be a woman, Nepal is a highly paternalistic society that affords little to no chance for women to get behind a camera and tell the stories of women. We will change that and acquire a voice for women in Nepal.
